Directors and creatives behind animated features and shorts nominated for this year’s Academy Awards will be on hand to discuss their projects in a pair of free virtual panel discussions presented by the VIEW Conference in partnership with the VFX Festival.
The panel featuring five of the directors behind four contenders for the best animated feature Oscar and the distributer of the fifth nominee will take place beginning at 9:30 a.m. PT on Wednesday, Feb. 21. On hand will be Peter Sohn, director of “Elemental”; Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, directors of “Nimona”; Joaquin Dos Santos, one of the directors of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”; “Robot Dreams” director Pablo Berger; and David Jesteadt, president of GKIDS, the distributor of “The Boy and the Heron,” directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

The shorts discussion will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Panelists are director Tal Kantor and producer Amit Gicelter for “Letter to a Pig”; director Jerusha Hess with “Ninety-Five Senses”; “Our Uniform” director Yegane Moghaddam; “Pachyderme” helmer Stephanie Clement; and writer-director Dave Mullins and producer Brad Booker with “WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko.”

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Robot Dreams,” “Nimona,” “The Boy and the Heron” and “WAR IS OVER!” all picked up awards at the animation industry’s Annie Awards on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The VIEW Conference is held every fall bringing together an array of industry professionals, thought leaders and enthusiasts to share insights about the fields of animation, VFX and games. The conference features speakers, presentations, workshops and masterclasses from some of the biggest names in the business. This year the conference is slated for Oct. 14-19 in Turin, Italy.
