The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics authored it in collaboration with The University of Nairobi.

It also noted youth unemployment in the country was nearly double the average global rate.

"Among the employed population, a larger proportion of females relative to males and youth are in the informal sector of unemployment. Females were more likely to work in family agriculture and as unpaid workers or be in self-employment relative to males, the report said.

Skewed education access

The survey attributed the high unemployment rate facing women to skewed education access favouring men.

It stated that whereas there was a nearly equal intake of women and men in primary and secondary education, women scored poorly in access to tertiary education.
