Four MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto arrested in Bungoma during the hotly contested Kabuchai by-election have appeared before a Bungoma court.
Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Nelson Koech (Belgut), Wilson Kogo (Chesumei) and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei appeared at the Bungoma Law Courts on Thursday, May 27.
On Friday, March 5, they were charged by the same court for being in possession of weapons during the mini poll and refusing to have their fingerprints taken after arrest.

They were then released on a cash bail of KSh 50000 each.

They denied the claims saying the government was using the police to intimidate them.
The case is set for hearing on July 1, 2021, in the same court.
Commit a felony
According to the prosecution, the case amounts to preparation to commit a felony contrary to section 308 (1) of the penal code.
The prosecution told the court that on March 4, 2021, at around 11 am, the security team deployed to Kabuchai by-election were on patrol duties within the constituency when they received a tip-off from a good samaritan that suspects persons were planning to disrupt the exercise.

The police officers reportedly became suspicious of the occupants prompting them to flag down the convoy.
"The officers noted that the four vehicles were ferrying members of parliament. Police officers conducted a security search inside all the vehicles. On the motor vehicle ferrying Barasa, police officers found three hoe sticks on the rear passenger seats hidden below," the statement further reads.Chaotic scenes witnessed
Upon arrest, the four MPs purported to be agents of their party despite being in possession of three hoe sticks that have since been kept as exhibits.
