A Nairobi court has granted investigators three-day extended detention for a couple and their son over the death of a 15-year-old daughter.

The three are accused of inflicting injuries to the girl on Friday, May 21, after she disappeared from home and showed up four days later.

Investigators of the matter requested the court to detain the deceased’s father for seven more days to complete investigations.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detective from Kilimani Pascal Mwachiro, the girl left home on Sunday, May 16, which made her parents furious.

Mwachiro told the court that the teenager was a truant child and had failed to report to school opening day.

The investigator divulged that the preliminary investigations showed the parents beaten the girl with a pipe rod at their Jamuhuri Showground residence.

The detective told the court the girl had failed to report to Kiteta Secondary School in Makueni county on opening day as required.

Machiro’s affidavit indicated that when the deceased resurfaced to their Jamuhuri Showground residence prompting the suspects to beat her, inflicting serious injuries in her body.

"After the beating, the minor went to bed but later said that she was unwell and unable to breathe. The parents then rushed to her Coptic Hospital,” the investigator indicated,

Since the case was very critical and unique, Senior Principal Magistrate Jane Kamau directed the three be detained for three days at Kilimani Police Station.

The State further told the court they needed more time to take DNA samples from the suspects and conduct a mental assessment before formally pressing charges.

The trio was arrested on Friday, May 21, at Coptic Hospital, after the facility's management made a report at Kilimani Police Station indicating the teenager had succumbed to injuries.
