A man who is facing extortion charges has implicated the daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, Agnes Saumu Mbuvi.

Jones Ochieng' had pleaded guilty to the charges in which he took a video of Saumu's ex-husband, Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip smoking shisha with a woman identified as Aeedah Bambi.

The court previously heard that Ochieng' attempted to blackmail the said woman threatening to leak the video if she did not pay him a given amount of money.

However, in unprecedented turn of events, the suspect on Friday, March 5, told a Nairobi court that it was Saumu who sent him the alleged video of her former lover and the woman in question.

Never met Anwar

The suspect who is the son of the late trade unionist Joseph Awach Mbolo, insisted that he had neither met Anwar nor Bambi.

"I grew up with Saumu and she is the one who sent that video to me," he told Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

He also told court that Saumu had never visited him in custody upon being asked if any of his friends had ever visited him.

According to a probation report presented in court, Ochieng' reconnected with Saumu, an old childhood friend who told him that he wanted to settle personal scores with the ex-lover.

"Their main objective was to damage the reputation of the politician of both the primary and secondary victims as well as benefit from the blackmail," the report stated.

I'm sorry

Ochieng' expressed remorse adding that he was willing to apologise to the senator and any other person who might have been affected by his actions.

"Though the offender states that he is remorseful his demeanour suggests otherwise. He seems to be enjoying all the attention around him," probation officer stated.

The-26-year pleaded with the court to give him a second chance to make amends in life saying he had learnt his lessons so painfully.

The magistrate gave him two weeks to reconsider his position in the matter and to rethink his life.

"I am giving you two weeks to rethink your life and reconsider your stance in this matter",Mutuku said. The case will be back in court on March 18 this year," Mutuku directed.
