As its name suggests, the International School of Kenya is an international school that does not follow the Kenyan school curriculum. It provides an alternative curriculum for learners who feel that the Kenyan system is not best suited to their needs and interests. The prestigious school is found in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. It has a rich history having been established in the mid-70s when the land on which it is located was a large coffee plantation. Since then, the coffee trees have been replaced by buildings in a 40-acre campus. It begins at the pre-kindergarten grade through to grade twelve.

There is a notion that International Schools are only for a select few in Kenya. While that may be true knowing that many students use choppers or chauffeur driven cars daily in such schools, there are also scholarships for needy but bright students who wish to be beneficiaries of the International School of Kenya curriculum. It also offers students an opportunity to experience diverse cultures, thus having an open view of the world. Here is everything you need to know about one of the most prestigious private schools in Kenya.

International School of Kenya scholarships

International School of Kenya recognizes that not all families can afford to pay the fees. Even those who are capable can find themselves in a situation in which they would need financial assistance. Such assistance can either be short-term or long-term. There exist several programs created by the school to offer financial aid to those in need.

Students in need of financial assistance are advised to complete the Financial Aid Application and Disclosure Form and post it to the school’s business manager. The scholarship money covers all the program costs through high school, including the IB diploma program. It is a commitment by the school to provide opportunities for low to middle-income Kenyan students to be part of the rich cultural and educational experience.

Eligibility for the ISK scholarship

The selection for the scholarship program is based on the criteria outlined below:

Existing families in need of financial assistance are also not forgotten. The school has put in place short-term financial aid to cover for school fees when necessary. To achieve this, the International School of Kenya created the Tuition Assistance Bursary program to offer relief temporarily. These are limited one-year tuition assistance bursaries that can be accessed by students in any grade of study.

The award ranges from as low as US$ 500 to as high as 20% of a family’s total tuition costs. However, for one to qualify for this scholarship, he/she must demonstrate an on-going record of satisfactory student academic performance and conduct. Since it is one-year assistance, it is therefore not automatically renewed the following year. Families that re-apply will only be considered based on the availability of resources and the number of applications from other families as well.
