Court has barred Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu from accessing office pending hearing and determination of a corruption case he is implicated in.

The court's decision came barely days after Justice Mumbi Ngugi ruled that all governors charged with corruption must step aside just like other civil officers to pave way for further investigations.

Waititu was arraigned on Tuesday, July 30, at Milimani Law Courts where he faced various counts of corruption amounting to KSh 588 million.

He was charged alongside his wife Susan Wangari and eight county staff who allegedly flouted procurement laws and conspired to defraud the county government millions of shillings.

While ruling on his bail term application, Anti-Corruption Court Justice Lawrence Mugambi said barring Waititu and his co-accused from accessing county offices will ensure integrity in the case.

This means Waititu's deputy, James Nyoro, will assume his duties for the duration the governor will be facing charges.

This is seen as a big blow to the county boss considering his bad blood with Nyoro whom he has occasionally accused of undermining his leadership.

A section of leaders allied to the Jubilee party's Kieleweke faction have been mounting pressure on Waititu to resign until his case is determined.

Led by nominated MP Maina Kamanda, the leaders accused the Kiambu leader of mismanaging county resources at the expense of serving the electorates.
