The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has reportedly met Mamman Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew.
Naija News gathered that Adesina met last week with Mallam Daura behind closed doors at his Abuja residence.
It was gathered that the meeting was held to intensify lobby for the AfDB president to win the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.
Adesina was said to have met with relatives of the President in Niger Republic, to see if they can convince Buhari to back him.
“He met him sometimes last week. His car was sighted entering Mamman Daura’s house during the week. Beyond Mamman Daura, he is also reaching out to Buhari’s relatives in Niger Republic, to see if they can convince Buhari to back him,” a source told ThisDay.
It is understood that some African leaders have also met with Buhari to anoint Adesina as the presidential candidate of the APC in the 2023 general election.
Some of the leaders are said to include the Presidents of Niger and Côte d’Ivoire.
The West African leaders were reported to have met Buhari in Abidjan last week, where the president attended a two-day conference organised by the United Nations, to try and persuade him to consider Adesina.
Adesina is among the 25 presidential aspirants expected to contest the ruling party’s ticket between May 30th and June 1st.
